OLD FASHIONED SERVICE FROM EXPERTS IN ALL ASPECTS OF TREE LOPPING AND REMOVAL
Steve Blower, Owner/Manager of Chop N Chip Tree Fellas first 'branched out' (so to speak) into tree lopping in 1982 in Ayr. Back then, the environment was taken for granted and very few people saw or cared about it.
Common practice for land clearing was to push and burn endemic habitats. Coupled with this was the crazy idea that all waste from households was buried in open pits. Worse, was the notion that it was ok to bury all vegetation from around town as well.
In the early 1980’s Steve worked as a contract tree cutter for the Department of Primary Industries in the Burdekin region, pruned orchards and conducted work in private and commercial properties.
In 1990 he was excited to see Thiess were calling for expressions of interest in land clearing which involved chipping and recycling of mulch through the golf course at Midge Point, Proserpine. Steve was the only contractor to apply and that is where Chop n Chip Tree Fellas was born.
In 1992 Steve moved to Townsville and successfully applied for a contract to chip Ergon waste from under powerlines. Even at this point in time, chippers were a rare sight in Queensland. The two year contract was completed and to this day Chop N Chip Tree Fellas has concentrated on rental properties and households. All material is recycled and sold back to landscapers and households.
In the mid 1990’s Steve completed an Advanced Felling Course with the Queensland Forestry Department in Ingham. Then in early 2000 he completed formal Arborist qualifications with the Australian College of Applied Science.
Thankfully, the burying of this commodity is now a thing of the past. We now live in an age where necessity has made it critical to recycle as much as possible, be it plastics, glass metals or organic waste. Tree waste has now been embraced as a must have resource. At Chop N Chip we knife cut timber and branches on site or at the kerbside. This product is then stockpiled at our facility, turned regularly and matured. The end result is mature, forest mulch with benefits such as water retention, soil improvement and weed suppression. Thus the ‘green’ cycle is completed.
